Summary:
The Procurement Manager will lead procurement operations for our U.S. distribution business, based in Chandler, Arizona, and oversee strategic sourcing initiatives across multiple commodities. This role combines hands-on sourcing and buying with leadership responsibilities, including training and mentoring new and entry-level employees. The successful candidate will have expertise in ERP systems (ideally SAP), MRP, and supply chain optimization methodologies, and will excel in vendor management, cost-saving strategies, and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Training
- Build and lead a high-performing procurement team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Train and mentor new and entry-level employees on procurement best practices, ERP systems, and sourcing strategies.
- Develop onboarding materials and training programs to ensure team competency and growth.
- Procurement & Sourcing
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies for industrial commodities, consumables, and cleanroom products.
- Manage new product requests, ad hoc sourcing requirements, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and delivery schedules with suppliers to achieve cost savings and improved lead times.
- Conduct regular market and spend analysis to identify opportunities for supplier improvement and cost reduction.
- Vendor Management
- Establish and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
- Implement vendor performance scorecards and compliance monitoring.
- Manage tender enquiries and contract negotiations.
- Inventory & Demand Planning
- Optimize inventory levels using MRP and demand forecasting tools.
- Support implementation and maintenance of Kanban systems and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs.
- Monitor inventory turns, FIFO management, and batch/date-sensitive items.
- Process Optimization
- Ensure purchasing processes are efficient and ERP (SAP) capabilities are fully leveraged.
- Utilize advanced tools and techniques such as predictive analytics, AI-driven forecasting, and 3-bin strategies.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to streamline procurement workflows.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with sales, operations, and warehousing teams to support business needs and customer requirements.
- Provide technical support for product-related queries and identify solutions for customers.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, or related field OR 4+ years of relevant experience.
- 5+ years of purchasing experience, ideally in an industrial distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of industrial supplies, PPE, MRO, cleanroom products, and related commodities.
- Proficient in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and strong understanding of MRP principles, Kanban, and VMI systems.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong people management skills and experience in training or mentoring.
- Ability to absorb technical product information and provide solutions.
- Good computer skills (MS Office); SAP ERP experience highly desirable.
- Flexible, proactive attitude with strategic thinking capability.
Preferred Qualifications:
- APICS/ISM certification (e.g., CPIM, CSCP, CPSM).
- Experience with predictive analytics tools and demand planning software.
- Background in ISO or GMP-regulated supply chains.
